Question

The length of a rectangle is 25% more than its breadth. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 90 m, what is its area?

A 4500 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 778 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 500 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 850 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

Let breadth = x m Then length = x + 25% of x = x + x/4 = 5x/4 Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + breadth) So, 2(5x/4 + x) = 90 Inside bracket: 5x/4 + x = 5x/4 + 4x/4 = 9x/4 So, 2 × 9x/4 = 90 ⇒ 9x/2 = 90 ⇒ 9x = 180 ⇒ x = 20 m (breadth) Length = 5x/4 = 5 × 20 / 4 = 25 m Area = length × breadth = 25 × 20 = 500 sq m
