Question
In a right-angled triangle, the hypotenuse is 13 cm and one of the legs is 5
cm. What is the area of the triangle?
Solution
ATQ, Let the two legs be 5 cm and b cm; hypotenuse = 13 cm. By Pythagoras: 5² + b² = 13² 25 + b² = 169 b² = 169 − 25 = 144 b = 12 cm. Area of right triangle = ½ × (product of legs) = ½ × 5 × 12 = 30 cm².
