Question
A rectangular piece of land has a perimeter of 66 metres
and length of 21 metres. If the area of the land is to be divided into 7 equal portions, then what will be the area (in m2) of each portionSolution
Let the breadth of the land = ‘b’ metres Then, perimeter of the land = 2 × (21 + b) Or, 2 × (21 + b) = 66 Or, 42 + 2b = 66 Or, 2b = 66 – 42 = 24 So, b = 24/2 = 12 And so, total area of the land = 21 × 12 = 252 m2 So, area of each of the 7 equal portions = 252 ÷ 7 = 36 m2
