      Question

There is a rectangular paper, whose length and breadth are in the ratio 9:5, respectively and it has a perimeter of 84 metres. If a triangular piece with height of 10 metres and base of 18 metres is cut out from the given paper then find the area (in m2) of the remaining paper.

A 315 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 310 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 305 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 335 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let the length and breadth of the rectangular be ‘9x’ metres and ‘5x’ metres, respectively Then, perimeter of the paper = 2 × (length + breadth) = 2 × (9x + 5x) = 28 x metres So, 28x = 84 So, x = (84/28) = 3 So, area of the entire paper = length × breadth = (9 × 3) × (5 × 3) = 27 × 15 = 405 m2 Area of the triangular piece = (1/2) × base × height = (1/2) × 10 × 18 = 90 m2 So, area of the remaining paper = 405 – 90 = 315 m2
