Question
A circular wire of diameter 56 cm is folded in the shape
of a rectangle whose sides are in the ratio 6:5. Find the area enclosed by the rectangle.Solution
Using the formula, Area = lb & D = 2r and A = πr²  Radius of circular wire = 56/2 = 28 cm Circumference of wire = 2πr = 2 x (22/7) x 28 = 176 cm Let the length and breadth of rectangle be 6x & 5x cm respectively. Therefore, perimeter of rectangle = 2(6x + 5x) = 22x According to the question, 22x = 176 ⇒ x = 176/22 = 8 Therefore, length of rectangle = 6x = 6 x 8 = 48 cm Breadth of rectangle = 5x = 5 x 8 = 40 cm Area = 48 x 40 = 1920 cm²
