    Question

The velocity of a boat when moving downstream is 18 km/h

greater than the speed of the stream. If it takes the boat 8 hours to travel 192 km downstream, determine the time it will take the boat to cover a distance of 90 km upstream.
A 2.5 hrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 6.5 hrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 7.5 hrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 8.5 hrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E none of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ, Let, speed of stream be ‘a’ km/h Speed of boat in downstream = ‘a + 18’ km/h So, 192/(a + 18) = 8 192 = 8a + 144 8a = 48 a = 6 Required time taken = 90/(18 – 6)  = 90/12  = 7.5 hrs
