    Solution

    Downstream speed of the boat = 140/14 = 10 km/hr Upstream speed of the boat = 96/12 = 8 km/hr Speed of boat in still water = (10 + 8)/2 = 9 km/hr Distance travelled by the boat in still water in 5 hours = 9 × 5 = 45 km
