Question
A boat goes 50 km in upstream in 5 hours and takes 3 hours to complete a distance of 12 km in downstream. Find the speed of boat in still water.
Solution
Speed of boat in still water = (D + U)/2 Upstream speed (U) = 50/5 = 10 km/hr Downstream speed (D) = 12/3 = 4 km/hr Speed of boat in still water = (10 + 4)/2 = 14/2 = 7 km/hr
