In a team of 25 players, the average age is 26 years.
One player aged 24 left and five new players with an average age of 28 years joined. When the coach’s age is also included, the average age becomes 27 years. What is the age of the coach?Solution
Initial total age of the team = 25 × 26 = 650 years
The sum of age of 5 new players = 5 × 28 = 140 years Let the age of the coach be ‘y’ years.
New total age without coach = 650 - 24 + 140 + y = (766 + y) years
New total number of people = 25 - 1 + 5 + 1 = 30
New total age with coach = 30 × 27 = 810 years
So, age of the coach = 810 - 766 = 44 years
