The average of the present age of 'A' and 'B' is 40

years. If the ratio between the age of 'A' 5 years ago to the age of 'B' 5 years hence is 3:5, then find the age of 'B' 10 years hence.
A 35 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 42 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 79 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 55 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

Let the age of 'A' 5 years ago be 3x years.

Let the age of 'B' 5 years hence be 5x years.

    So, present age of 'A' = 3x + 5

    So, present age of 'B' = 5x - 5

    Sum of their present ages = 40 × 2 = 80

    So, 3x + 5 + 5x - 5 = 80

    So, 8x = 80

    So, x = 10

    So, present age of 'B' = 5x - 5 = 50 - 5 = 45

    Age of 'B' 10 years hence = 45 + 10 = 55 years
