      Question

The average weight of 10 individuals in an organization is

50 kg. When two new members, Akash and Binny, join the organization, their weights being in the ratio of 15:16, the overall average weight rises by 2 kg. What is the weight difference between Akash and Binny?
A 4 kg Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 9 kg Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 12 kg Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 10 kg Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,
      Total weight of 10 people = (50 × 10) = 500 kg
      Total weight of 12 people = (52 × 12) = 624 kg
      Total weight of ‘Akash’ and ‘Binny’ = (624 – 500) = 124 kg
Let the weight of ‘Akash’ and ‘Binny’ be ‘15x’ kg and ‘16x’ kg, respectively.
      So, (15x + 16x) = 124
      Or, 31x = 124
      Or, x = 4
      Therefore, required difference = (16x – 15x) = x = 4 kg
