    The average of four numbers is 90. Two of the numbers

    are equal (not least), and 40 more than the least number. If the 4th number is five times the least number then find the average of smallest and largest number.

    ATQ, Let the two equal numbers be ‘e’ each Therefore, least number = (e – 40) 4th number = 5(e – 40) According to the question, 5(e – 40) + e – 40 + e + e = 4 × 90 Or, 8e – 240 = 360 Or, e = 600/8 = 75 Therefore, 4 numbers are 75, 75, 35, and 175 Therefore, required average = (175 + 35)/2 = 105
