    of food and women eat on an average 35 kg of food. The men and women are equal in number. A woman joined the family for dinner and the average consumption became 45. How much did woman eat (in kgs)?

    Solution

    As men and women are equal so , there are 5 women and 5 men so, total consumption will be 40 × 5 = 200 (by men) and 35 × 5 = 175 (by women)
    Total consumption = 375 kg
    But after including a woman the average consumption for 11 people is given to be 45.
    So the total consumption will be 45 × 11 = 495 kg
    So, woman’s consumption will be = 495 – 375 = 120 kg
