Question
A mixture contains alcohol and water in ratio 5:1 if 30
liters of mixture is replaced by liters of water then the ratio of alcohol and water becomes the 3:7 how many alcohol was there in mixture initially?Solution
Let alcohol & water orginally was 5x & x respectively. So {(5x - 30 `xx` 5/6}/{(x - 30 `xx` 5/6 + 30} = 3/7 or (5x - 25) / {(x - 5 + 30} = 3/7 or 35x -175 = 3x + 75 or 32x = 250 or x = 7.8125 L Hence orginal quantity of alcohol = 5x = 5 `xx` 7.8125 = 39.0625 L
