Question
Simplify:
7x + 9y - [(14x + 5y) - (5x + 3y) + 4y] - 5x
Solution
7x + 9y - [(14x + 5y) - (5x + 3y) + 4y] - 5x
= 7x + 9y - [14x + 5y - 5x - 3y + 4y] - 5x
= 7x + 9y - [9x + 6y] - 5x
= 7x + 9y - 9x - 6y - 5x
= -7x + 3y
