Question

The ratio of ages of P and Q, after 8 years will be

19:14 respectively. The present average age of P, Q and R is 52 years. If present age of R is 25% more than age of P 5 years ago, then find the ratio of present ages of Q and R respectively.
A 2:3 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 5:2 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 1:5 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 3:4 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let ages of P and Q, after 8 years be 19x years and 14x years respectively. Present age of P = ‘19x – 8’ years Present age of Q = ‘14x – 8’ years Present age of R = 52 × 3 – (19x – 8 + 14x – 8) = ‘156 – 33x’ years According to the question: 1.25 × (19x – 8 – 5) = 156 – 33x Or, 1.25 × (19x – 13) = 156 – 33x Or, 23.75x – 16.25 = 156 – 33x Or, 56.75x = 172.25 Or, x = 3 Present age of Q = 14 × 3 – 8 = 34 years Present age of R = 156 – 33 × 3 = 57 years Desired Ratio = 34:57 = 2:3
