Question
7 years ago, the age ratio between βMβ and βNβ
was 4:5. Present average age of βMβ and βOβ is 70 years. Determine the current age of βPβ who is 50% more than the current age of βNβ, if 3 years later, the average age of βNβ and βOβ will be 75 years.Solution
ATQ,
Let the age of βMβ, 7 years ago be β4xβ years And, age of βNβ, 7 years ago = 4x Γ (5/4) = β5xβ years So, present age of βMβ = (4x + 7) years And, present age of βNβ = (5x + 7) years Sum of present ages of βMβ and βOβ = (70 Γ 2) = 140 years So, present age of βOβ = 140 - (4x + 7) = (133 - 4x) years According to question: (5x + 7) + (133 - 4x) = (75 Γ 2) - 6 Or, x + 140 = 150 - 6 Or, x = 144 - 140 Or, x = 4 So, present age of βNβ = (5 Γ 4 + 7) = 27 years And, present age of βPβ = (27 Γ 1.5) = 40.5 years
