Question
7 years ago, the age ratio between ‘M’ and ‘N’
was 4:5. Present average age of ‘M’ and ‘O’ is 70 years. Determine the current age of ‘P’ who is 50% more than the current age of ‘N’, if 3 years later, the average age of ‘N’ and ‘O’ will be 75 years.Solution
ATQ,
Let the age of ‘M’, 7 years ago be ‘4x’ years And, age of ‘N’, 7 years ago = 4x × (5/4) = ‘5x’ years So, present age of ‘M’ = (4x + 7) years And, present age of ‘N’ = (5x + 7) years Sum of present ages of ‘M’ and ‘O’ = (70 × 2) = 140 years So, present age of ‘O’ = 140 - (4x + 7) = (133 - 4x) years According to question: (5x + 7) + (133 - 4x) = (75 × 2) - 6 Or, x + 140 = 150 - 6 Or, x = 144 - 140 Or, x = 4 So, present age of ‘N’ = (5 × 4 + 7) = 27 years And, present age of ‘P’ = (27 × 1.5) = 40.5 years
