Under Section 20(6), within what period must the DRAT endeavour to dispose of an appeal?

Section 20(6) provides that the appeal filed before the Appellate Tribunal under sub-section (1) shall be dealt with as expeditiously as possible and endeavour shall be made by it to dispose of the appeal finally within six months from the date of receipt of the appeal. This six-month target for DRAT appeals mirrors the 180-day target for DRT application disposal under Section 19(24). Both are directory provisions - non-compliance does not invalidate the proceedings. Together, they reflect the legislative intent that the entire DRT-DRAT litigation cycle should ideally conclude within approximately one year from filing.
