The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a trial of the Mk-II(LASER-Directed Energy Weapon system at the National Open-Air Range (NOAR) in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. This advanced 30-kilowatt laser weapon system demonstrated its capability to shoot down fixed-wing drones and swarm drones at long range, thwart multiple drone attacks simultaneously, and destroy enemy surveillance sensors and antennae. Developed by DRDO's Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS) in Hyderabad, along with academic institutions and Indian industries, this system is considered one of the most potent counter-drone systems globally due to its lightning-fast engagement speed, precision, and lethal action within seconds. With these successful trials, India joins the US, China, and Russia as the fourth country in the world with advanced laser weapon capabilities.
