The Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary , popularly known as Aralam Butterfly Sanctuary, is located in Kerala and forms part of the Western Ghats , one of the world's most important biodiversity hotspots.

The Western Ghats were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012 due to their exceptional biodiversity and high level of endemism. The region stretches across six Indian states and is home to thousands of species of plants, animals, birds, reptiles, and insects, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.

Aralam is especially renowned for its rich butterfly diversity, with hundreds of butterfly species recorded in the sanctuary. Its tropical forests, streams, and varied habitats make it an important conservation area within the Western Ghats ecosystem.
