The slogan "Do or Die" was given by Mahatma Gandhi in the Quit India movement. In his Quit India speech on August 8, 1942, at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay, Gandhi urged people to "Do or Die." During World War II, Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Quit India Movement, also known as the August Movement, at a Bombay session of the All-India Congress Committee, seeking an end to British rule in India. Gandhi called for "An Orderly British Withdrawal" from India in a mass protest organized by the All-India Congress Committee. The British were prepared to act even though they were at war. To celebrate the Quit India Movement's Golden Jubilee, the Reserve Bank of India issued a 1 rupee commemorative coin in 1992.
