Portuguese occupation of Goa: Portuguese Governor Alfonso-de- Albuquerque took over Goa in 1510 AD. It was under the authority of Sultan Yusuf Adilshah of Bijapur.  The Portuguese rule lasted for about 450 years, and heavily influenced Goan culture, cuisine, and architecture Grant of Royal Charter to the English East India Company: On December 31, 1600, the British Queen Elizabeth allowed the East India Company to trade with the countries of the East for 15 years. This is called the Royal Charter Act. Establishment of Dutch East India Company: Dutch were residents of Holland or Netherlands. Under the resolution passed by the Dutch Parliament, the 'Verenigden Oost Indies' company was established in 1602 AD.  The first permanent Dutch trading post was established in 1603 in Banten, West Java, Indonesia. Today this area is Batavia, Indonesia.  Death of Mughal Emperor Akbar: Akbar died on 1605 AD due to a disease called dysentery.  His tomb is in Sikandra (Agra). A ruler since his teens, Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad Akbar had brought two-thirds of the Indian sub-continent into an empire that included Afghanistan, Kashmir and all of present-day India and Pakistan. Establishment of the French East India Company: All the trades settlement of the French Company took place at Pondicherry. The Battle of Wandiwash between the French and the British made the French East India Company lose its control of India.
