The liquidity deficit expanded to ₹87,183 crore on 23 September, up from ₹31,987 crore the prior day, due to advance tax and GST outflows. In response, the RBI conducted an overnight VRR auction of ₹1.50 lakh crore, receiving bids of ₹48,980 crore at 5.51%. The RBI also indicated another overnight VRR to inject ₹1.25 lakh crore. This marked a move into deficit from the surplus liquidity that had prevailed since March 2025.
