Of 12,769 villages, 8,035 villages are aspiring villages with clean and good sanitation practices having green surroundings, enabling people to lead a quality life while piped and safe drinking water is supplied to all houses. Tamil Nadu came in second with 4,432 villages 35.39 per cent, and Karnataka came in third with 1,511 villages 5.59 .
