National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR ) is an arm of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It was started as ‘National Bureau of Plant Introduction’ in 1976, but later got renamed as “National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR ) in 1977. It’s headquarters is in New Delhi. It acts as the nodal institute at the national level for acquisition, management and genomics-based profiling of indigenous and exotic plant genetic resources (PGR) for food and agriculture.
