The Digital India Programme was officially launched on July 1, 2015, completing 11 years in July 2026. It is built around nine strategic pillars: (1) Broadband Highways, (2) Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity, (3) Public Internet Access Programme, (4) e-Governance — Reforming Government through Technology, (5) e-Kranti — Electronic Delivery of Services, (6) Information for All, (7) Electronics Manufacturing, (8) IT for Jobs, and (9) Early Harvest Programmes. Under these pillars, India has achieved remarkable milestones — UPI transactions grew from 2 crore in FY17 to over 24,162 crore in FY26, and India now leads global real-time payments with approximately 49% share of worldwide real-time transaction volume.
