Three years ago, the ratio of Meena's age to Neha’s age 1

year from now was 3:5. If their average present age is 25 years, what is the difference between their current ages?
A 8 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 2 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 6 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 9 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,

Sum of present ages of Meena and Neha = 25 × 2 = 50 years

Let the present age of Meena = y years

Then, present age of Neha = (50 − y) years

      According to the question,

      (y − 3):(50 − y + 1) = 3:5

      ⇒ 5(y − 3) = 3(51 − y)

      ⇒ 5y − 15 = 153 − 3y

      ⇒ 8y = 168

      ⇒ y = 168 ÷ 8 = 21

So, present age of Meena = 21 years

      And present age of Neha = 50 − 21 = 29 years

      Therefore, difference = 29 − 21 = 8 years
