Exam Pattern
The level of competition for any job can never be expected to be low these days, and if there is a Government job in question, the competition can be expected to be real high. To make sure that you ace the exam and get that job, you need to plan well in advance and the journey starts with collecting suitable information. You should start your preparation for the Ministry of Defence recruitment 2024 exam with noting down the exam pattern details. There are 8 posts in all for which there will be a two - tier selection process. Further details post-wise are mentioned below.
Stenographer Gr-II
The selection process of Stenographer Grade II will consist of two stages. Tier I will have a written test which will test the candidates on their knowledge of three subjects / parts.
Tier II will be divided into two parts: Descriptive test & Shorthand / Typing Test.
Tier 1 Exam Pattern
- The test will be objective type with MCQs.
- The candidates will be allotted 120 minutes to complete the Tier 1 exam.
- The test will be bilingual except for English language.
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

Tier 2 Exam Pattern
The candidates who qualify Tier 1 of the Ministry of Defence recruitment 2024 will be called for the Tier 2 test. Tier 2 will have two tests: Descriptive test & Shorthand/Typing Test.
Descriptive Test The Descriptive test will be in pen and paper mode and will be of 100 marks. The duration of the test will be 60 minutes. Candidates will be required to write an essay of 200-250 words and a Letter/Application of 150-200 words. Candidates can attempt the test either in Hindi/English.

(b). Shorthand/Typing Test
The Shorthand or Typing Test will be conducted only in English unlike the Descriptive Test. This test will be qualifying in nature. There will be a dictation test of 10 minutes duration.

The final selection of the candidates will be based on the merit prepared by considering the scores obtained in both Tier 1 and Tier 2.
Civil Technical Instructor (CTI)
The selection process of Civil Technical Instructor will consist of two stages. Tier I will have a written test which will test the candidates on their knowledge of three subjects / parts.
Tier II will be divided into three parts: Descriptive test & Shorthand / Typing Paper & Practical Test.
Tier 1 Exam Pattern
- The test will be objective type with MCQs.
- The test will have 200 questions.
- The candidates will be allotted 120 minutes to complete the Tier 1 exam.
- The test will be bilingual except for English language.
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

Tier 2 Exam Pattern
After securing qualifying marks in Tier 1, the candidates will have to appear in Tier 2 test. The Tier 2 for the CTI post will have three tests.
(a) Descriptive Test
The qualifying marks for the Descriptive Test will be 33 percent. The Descriptive test will be in pen and paper mode and will be of 100 marks. The duration of the test will be 60 minutes. Candidates will be required to write an essay of 200-250 words and a Letter/Application of 150-200 words. Candidates can attempt the test either in Hindi/English.

(b) Typing Test
The next part will test the typing skills of the candidates. This test will be conducted in either Hindi or English and will consist of Powerpoint and Excel. The test will be for 60 minutes.

(c) Practical Test
Only those candidates who score minimum qualifying marks in the above mentioned tests, will appear for the ‘Practical Test’. The test will be qualifying in nature.
LDC or Lower Division Clerk
Candidates willing to apply for the post of LDC will also have to go through a two-tier selection process. Tier I will have a written test which will test the candidates on their knowledge of four subjects / parts.
Tier II will be divided into three parts: Descriptive Paper & Typing Test.
Tier 1 Exam Pattern
- The test will be objective type with MCQs.
- The test will have 100 questions.
- The candidates will be allotted 75 minutes.
- The test will be bilingual except for English language.
- There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks.

Tier 2 Exam Pattern
(a) Descriptive Paper
The qualifying marks for the Descriptive paper will be 33 percent. The paper will be in pen and paper mode and will be of 100 marks. The duration of the test will be 60 minutes. Candidates will be required to write an essay of 200-250 words and a Letter/Application of 150-200 words. Candidates can attempt the test either in Hindi/English.

(b) Typing Test
The next part will test the typing skills of the candidates who clear Tier 1 and Descriptive paper of Tier 2. This test will be conducted in either Hindi or English. The candidates will have to showcase their typing skills on a computer within 10 minutes.

Typing test will be conducted for those candidates who qualify in the Tier-1 (Written examination) and Tier-2 (Descriptive Paper). Such Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi. Typing Test will be of qualifying in nature. Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 w.p.m. and those opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 w.p,m. The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes. |
The final merit will be prepared based on the performance of candidates in both Tier 1 & Tier 2.
Draughtsman Grade III, Civilian Motor Driver (Ordinary Grade), MTS (Chowkidar), MTS (Messenger) & Fatigueman
For the candidates who wish to apply for any of these posts, will have a similar selection process which will contain two tiers. Tier 1 will have a written test whereas Tier 2 will consist of a Practical/Skill Test.The written test will test the candidates on their knowledge of four subjects / parts.
Tier II will have one part: Practical/Skill Test.
Tier 1 Exam Pattern
- The test will be objective type with MCQs.
- The candidates will be allotted 90 minutes to complete the Tier 1 exam.
- There will be 100 questions in Tier 1.
- The test will be bilingual except for English language.
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

Tier 2 Exam Pattern
Practical / Skill Test - this test will be conducted later on for those candidates who clear their Tier 1 written test.
Marking Scheme
The Ministry of Defence selection process contains majorly two tiers. Tier 1 contains a written test and Tier 2 is mostly going to be qualifying in nature. The written test will comprise objective questions with negative marking.
For the posts of Civilian Technical Instructor, Stenographer Grade-II, Draughtsman Grade III, Civilian Motor Driver (Ordinary Grade), MTS (Chowkidar), MTS (Messenger) & Fatigueman - the questions will be of 1 mark each with a negative marking of 0.25 marks.
For the post of Lower Division Clerk (LDC), the questions will carry 2 marks with a negative marking of 0.50 marks.

Exam Language
There will be two tiers in the selection process of the Ministry of Defence recruitment process. Both Tier 1 and Tier 2 will be bilingual in nature. Candidates can opt for either Hindi or English as their medium.
Only the test of English Language will have to be attempted in English.
