Question
In the question below some statements are given
followed by three conclusions I, II, and III. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusion definitely follows from the given statements, disregarding commonly known facts. Statements: Some Hammer are Screw. All Bolt are Screw. No Screw are Nail. Conclusions: I. No Bolt is Nail. II. Some Screw are Bolt. III. Some Nail are Hammer.Solution
All Bolt are Screw (A) + No Screw are Nail (E) → No Bolt is Nail (E). Hence conclusion I follows. All Bolt are Screw (A) → Conversion → Some Screw are Bolt (I). Hence conclusion II follows. Some Hammer are Screw (I) + No Screw are Nail (E) → Some Hammer are not Nail (O). Hence conclusion III does not follow.
