In each question below are given three statements followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. You have to take the two given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the three given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.

Statements:      

Some linen are runner.

All runner are coaster.

Some coaster are mat.

Conclusions:      

I. Some mat are runner.

II. Some coaster are linen.

III. Some linen are mat.

Solution

All runner are coaster (A) + Some coaster are mat (I) ⇒ No conclusion. Hence, conclusion I and III will not follow. Some linen are runner (I) + All runner are coaster (A) ⇒ Some linen are coaster (I) ⇒ conversion ⇒ Some coaster are linen (I). Hence, conclusion II will follow.
