Question
Who among the following lives on floor
no.3? Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below. Seven people Moni, Saumya, Ashish, Tanya, Kabir, Rani, and Piyush live on separate floors of a 7-floor building. Ground floor is numbered 1, first floor is numbered. 2 and so on until the topmost floor are numbered 7. Each one of these eat different junk food , namely Pizza, Sandwich, Burger, French Fries, Hot Dog, Baconator, Chicken Nuggets but not necessarily in the same order. (i)Only three people live above the floor on which Moni lives. (ii) Only one person lives between Moni and the one eating Baconator. (iii) Rani lives immediately below the one eating Sandwich. (iv)The one eating Sandwich lives on an even-numbered floor. (v) Only three people live between the ones eating Baconator and Burger. (vi) Kabir lives immediately above Ashish and Kabir is not eating Burger. (vii)Only two people live between Saumya and the one eating Hot Dog. (viii)The one eating Hot Dog lives below the floor on which Saumya lives. (ix)The one eating Pizza does not live immediately above or immediately below Saumya. (x) Tanya does not live immediately above or immediately below Moni. (xi) Piyush does not eat French fries.Solution
From (ii), one person lives between Moni and the one eating Baconator. From (iv), one eating Sandwich lives on an even numbered floor. Therefore, possibility of the person eating Sandwich being in floor no. 2nd or 4th or 6th floor is correct. From (iii), Rani lives immediately below the one eating Sandwich. Now, the floor for the person eating Sandwich is not yet determined. So, as of now Rani can be either in floor no 1 or 3 or 5.
From (v), only three people live between the ones eating Baconator and Burger. From (ii), it is clear that the person eating Baconator in floor no. 2 or 6. So two possibility is there: (i) Person eating Sandwich cannot be in floor no. 2 then person eating Burger will be in floor no.6. (ii) Person eating Sandwich cannot be in floor no. 6 then person eating Burger will be in floor no.2. Therefore, person eating Sandwich cannot be in floor no. 2 or 6. From (iii), Rani will be in floor no. 3. Hence, Moni lives in floor no. 4 and is eating Sandwich
From (vi), Kabir lives immediately above Ashish.
From (vii), only two people live between Saumya and the one who eating Hot Dog. The one eating Hot Dog lives below the floor on which Saumya lives. So, person eating Hot Dog and Saumya are two floors apart, with the person eating Hot Dog below Saumya. Now, the person eating Hot Dog cannot be in floor no.1 because then Saumya would be in floor no.4 which is not possible as Moni is already at floor no. 4. If the person eating Hot Dog is in floor no 3, then Saumya will be in floor no.6. The Hot Dog eater cannot be in floor no.5 or 7 as there will be no floor for Saumya above them. Since Saumya is confirmed to be in floor no 6, Kabir and Ashish combination cannot be available in the floor no. 5, 6 and 7. Therefore, Rani lives at floor no. 3 and eating Hot Dog. Saumya lives in floor no. 6 and eating either Baconator or Burger. Ashish lives in floor no. 1 and Kabir lives in floor no.2 and eats either Baconator or Burger
Kabir is not eating Burger. Therefore, Kabir will be the one eating Baconator and Saumya will be eating Burger.
From (ix), one eating Pizza does not live immediately above or below Saumya. So, the only floor no. 1 is there for the person eating Pizza i.e., Ashish. Therefore, Ashish lives in floor no. 1 and eating Pizza.
