Question
Which of the following combinations is
correct? Read the information given below and answer the questions that follow. 1. Eight cousins (Amira, Bhaskar, Chitra, Gopal, Vaastav, Vitara, Sanyam and Haneet) of a family are sitting around a circular table, not necessarily in the same order. Each cousin stays in a different city (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Chandigarh, Pune, Hyderabad and Gurugram), not necessarily in the same order. These eight cousins work in three MNCs (Accenture, Infosys, TCS). Not more than three cousins work in one MNC. 2. Gopal lives in Delhi and works in TCS and is sitting with the ones who are from the same MNC and one of them lives in Mumbai. 3. Amira is sitting second to the left of Gopal and works in the same MNC as the one who stays in Pune. 4. Vitara works in the same MNC as only Chitra who lives in Gurugram. Chitra sits opposite Gopal. The one who stays in Chandigarh doesn’t sit adjacent to nor works in the same MNC as Amira or the one who stays in Gurugram. 5. Vitara and the one who is from Hyderabad are sitting adjacent to each other but Vitara is not sitting adjacent to the one to stays in Delhi or Chandigarh. 6. Amira stays neither in Hyderabad nor in Chennai. Vasstav faces Haneet but he does not work in TCS. Chitra works in Infosys and only two cousins sit between her and Sanyam.Solution
From 1, 2, 3 From 1,2,3, two cases arise, Case 1: The one sitting at 6 stays in Mumbai and Case 2: the one sitting at 4 stays in Mumbai.
MNC – Person – City combinations TCS Gopal - _________ ______- Mumbai _______- ________ Accenture/Infosys Amira - ________ ______ - Pune Infosys / Accenture Vitara - _________ Chitra- Gurugram From 6, we know that Chitra works in Infosys And from 4 we know, Vitara works in the same MNC as only Chitra. Thus, in Infosys, only two people work. Thus, three people work in both Accenture and TCS. MNC – Person – City combinations TCS Gopal - _________ ______- Mumbai _______- ________ Accenture Amira - ________ ______ - Pune _______ - ______ Infosys Vitara - _________ Chitra- Gurugram Combining with 4,
From 4, Chitra sits opposite Gopal. The one who stays in Chandigarh doesn’t sit adjacent to nor works in the same MNC as Amira or the one who stays in Gurugram. This means the one staying in Chandigarh works in TCS. The only position possible for the one who stays in Chandigarh is 4, in case 1, because, the one who stays in Chandigarh works in TCS and the ones working in TCS can be seated only at 4,5,6. Gopal is seated at 5 and at 6, the one staying in Chandigarh cannot stay because he/she cannot be a neighbor of Amira. In case 2, the one staying in Chandigarh cannot be seated at 4 or 5 (already occupied) nor at 6 (cannot be a neighbor of Amira). Thus case 2, discarded.
Vitara and the one who is from Hyderabad are sitting adjacent to each other but Vitara is not sitting adjacent to the one to stays in Delhi or Chandigarh. Amira stays neither in Hyderabad nor in Chennai. Thus, She stays in Bangalore. Vasstav faces Haneet but he does not work in TCS. Thus, Vasstav sits at 8 and Haneet sits at 4. Chitra works in Infosys and only two cousins sit between her and Sanyam. Thus Sanyam sits at 6.
From, MNC – Person – City combinations TCS Gopal - _________ ______- Mumbai _______- ________ Accenture Amira - ________ ______ - Pune _______ - ______ Infosys Vitara - _____ Chitra- Gurugram We know that Vitara works in Infosys and the one who lives in Pune works at Accenture. Thus Vitara lives in Chennai.
From, MNC – Person – City combinations TCS Gopal - _________ ______- Mumbai _______- ________ Accenture Amira - Bangalore ______ - Pune _______ - ______ Infosys Vitara - Chennai Chitra- Gurugram Only place left is Pune thus, Vaastav lives in Pune and works at Accenture. Filling the missing entry. Hyderabad – Accenture -
