      Question

The question given below consists of two statements

numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read all the statements and give answer. Five poles D, E, F, G and H are of different lengths. Pole D is longer than pole G. Which is the second longest pole? Statement I: Pole H is longer than G and F. Pole G is longer than F and E. Statement II: Pole F is longer than only one pole. Pole H is longer than pole G but shorter than pole D.
A The data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B The data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C The data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D The data given in both statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E The data in both statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

From statement I, Pole H is longer than G and F. Pole G is longer than F and E. H > G > F/E also, D > G So, we cannot say which is 2nd longest pole from statement I. From statement II, Pole F is longer than only one pole. Pole H is longer than pole G but shorter than pole D. _ > _ > _ > F > _ and D > H > G So, from statement II, we can’t say which is the second longest pole. From statement I and II, D > H > G > F > E So, from I and II we can say that pole H is the second longest pole.
