Question
Train A and B can cross a 300 meters long platform in
the same time. The length of Train A is 300 meters and the speed of Train B is 5/4 times the speed of Train A. If Train A crosses a bridge of the same length as of Train B in 50 seconds, then find the time (in seconds) taken by Train B to cross a tunnel 150 m long.Solution
Let speed of train A = 4x meters/second
And speed of train B = 5x meters/second
Let length of train B = y meters ATQ, (y + 300)/5x = (300 + 300)/4x
y + 300 = 750
y = 450 meters Speed of train A = (300 + 450)/50 = 15 m/sec
Speed of train B = 5/4 × 15 = 18.75 ≈ 19 m/sec Required time = (450 + 150)/25 = 600/25 = 24 sec
