    Question

Train ‘A’ is travelling with a speed of 108 km/hr

and crosses a vertical pole in 5 seconds. Train ‘B’ is 40 metres longer than ‘A’ and travelling with a speed 1/6th less than that of train 'A'. In how much time train B can cross a 160 metres long platform?
A 14 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 15 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 16 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 17 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 18 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Speed of train ‘A’ = 108 × (5/18) = 30 m/sec Length of train ‘A’ = 30 × 5 = 150 metres Therefore, speed of train ‘B’ = (5/6) × 30 = 25 m/sec Length of train ‘B’ = 150 + 40 = 190 metres Required time taken = (190 + 160)/25 = 14 seconds
