Question

A train takes 24 seconds to pass a pole and 34 seconds

to completely cross a tunnel that is 300 metres long. How much time will a motorbike, moving at 60 m/s in the same direction, take to pass the train?
A 24 secs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 12 secs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 22 secs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 28 secs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let the length of the train = ‘L’ metres Distance covered by the train in 24 seconds = ‘L’ metres Distance covered by the train in 34 seconds = (L + 300) metres So, distance covered by the train in (34 – 24) seconds = L + 300 – L = 300 metres So, speed of the train = (300 / 10) = 30 m/s So, length of the train = 30 × 24 = 720 metres Relative speed of the motorbike with respect to the train = 60 − 30 = 30 m/s So, time taken by the motorbike to cross the train = (720 / 30) = 24 seconds
