Question
Train ‘M’ and train ‘N’ depart from stations
‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively, heading towards each other at the same moment. After 10 hours, they meet. At that point, train ‘N’ had travelled 150 km more than train ‘M’. If the total distance between stations ‘A’ and ‘B’ is 850 km, how far did train ‘M’ go in 6 hours?Solution
ATQ,
Let distance covered by train ‘M’ at the meeting point = ‘x’ km
So, distance covered by train ‘N’ = x + 150 km
According to the question,
x + x + 150 = 850
Or, 2x = 700
Or, x = 350
Distance travelled by train ‘M’ in 10 hours = 350 km
Speed of train ‘M’ = 350 / 10 = 35 km/h
Distance covered by train ‘M’ in 6 hours = 35 × 6 = 210 km
