    Question

    Speeds of train 'A' and train 'B' are in the ratio 1:3,

    respectively. Train 'B' can completely overtake train 'A' in 200 seconds. If lengths of train 'A' and train 'B' are 400 metres and 800 metres, respectively, then find the time taken by the two trains to cross each other while they are running in opposite directions.
    A 110 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 100 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 120 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 90 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the speeds of train 'A' and train 'B' be 'x' m/s and '3x' m/s, respectively.

    ATQ;

    (400 + 800) / (3x - x) = 200
    тЗТ 1200 / 2x = 200 тЗТ x = 3

    So, required time = (400 + 800) / (x + 3x) = 1200 / 12 = 100 seconds
