Question

    Train ‘A’ running with a speed of 108 km/hr

crosses a vertical pole in 10 seconds. Find the approx. time taken by the train ‘A’ to cross a train ‘B’ whose length is 120 metres less than that of train ‘A’ and whose speed is 1/12 more than that of train ‘A’ if both are running in opposite direction.
A 8 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 9 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 4 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 12 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 10 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Speed of train ‘A’ = 108 × (5/18) = 30 m/sec
    Length of train ‘A’ = 30 × 10 = 300 metres
    Length of train ‘B’ = 300 – 120 = 180 metres
    Speed of train ‘B’ = 30 + (30/12) = 32.5 m/sec
    Required time taken = (300 + 180)/(30 + 32.5) = 7.68 = 8 seconds
