Question
Train ‘A’ running with a speed of 108 km/hr crosses
a vertical pole in 6 seconds. Find the approx. time taken by the train ‘A’ to cross a train ‘B’ whose length is 120 metres less than that of train ‘A’ and whose speed is 1/10 more than that of train ‘A’ if both are running in opposite direction.Solution
Speed of train ‘A’ = 108 × (5/18) = 30 m/sec Length of train ‘A’ = 30 × 6 = 180 metres Length of train ‘B’ = 180 – 120 = 60 metres Speed of train ‘B’ = 30 + (30/10) = 33 m/sec Required time taken = (180 + 60)/(30 + 33) = 3.80 = 4 seconds
