Question

    Train ‘A’ running with a speed of 108 km/hr

crosses a vertical pole in 9 seconds. Find time taken by the train ‘A’ to cross a train ‘B’ whose length is 120 metres less than that of train ‘A’ and whose speed is 1/3 more than that of train ‘A’ if both are running in opposite direction.
A 6 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 5 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 3 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 6 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 9 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Speed of train ‘A’ = 108 × (5/18) = 30 m/sec
    Length of train ‘A’ = 30 × 9 = 270 metres
    Length of train ‘B’ = 270 – 120 = 150 metres
    Speed of train ‘B’ = 30 + (30/3) = 40 m/sec
    Required time taken = (270 + 150)/(30 + 40) = 6 seconds
