Question
X can do a piece of work in 33 days. He worked at it for
3 days and then Y finished it in 20 days. In how many days can X and Y together finish the work?Solution
X’s 3 days work = 3/33 = 1/11
Remaining work = 1 – 1/11 = 10/11
This work was done by Y in 20 days.
Y does 10/11th of the work in 20 days, he will finish the work in 20 × 11/10 = 22 days.
X & Y together would take 1/22 + 1/22 = 2/22 = 1/11 i.e. 11 days to complete the work.
