    • Question

      Two cars, ‘X’ and ‘Y’, started from town ‘M’ and ‘N’ respectively towards each other at the same time. When they crossed paths after 6 hours, car ‘Y’ had covered 90 km more than car ‘X’. What distance did car ‘X’ cover in 4 hours if the total distance between the towns is 510 km?

      A 196 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 160 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 140 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 185 km Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,

      Let distance travelled by car ‘X’ at the time of meeting = ‘x’ km

      So, distance travelled by car ‘Y’ at the time of meeting = ‘x + 90’ km

      According to question;

      x + x + 90 = 510

      Or, 2x = 420

      Or, x = 210

      Distance travelled by car ‘X’ in 6 hours = 210 km

      Speed of car ‘X’ = 210 / 6 = 35 km/h

      Distance travelled by car ‘X’ in 4 hours = 35 × 4 = 140 km
