Question
Two buses, ‘D’ and ‘E’, started from cities ‘A’
and ‘B’ towards each other at the same time. When they met after 10 hours, bus ‘E’ had travelled 150 km more than bus ‘D’. Find the distance travelled by bus ‘D’ in 7 hours if the distance between both cities is 850 km.Solution
Let distance travelled by bus ‘D’ at the time of meet = ‘x’ km
So, distance travelled by bus ‘E’ at the time of meet = ‘x + 150’ km
According to question:
x + x + 150 = 850
Or, 2x = 700
Or, x = 350
Distance travelled by bus ‘D’ in 10 hours = 350 km
Speed of bus ‘D’ = 350 / 10 = 35 km/h
Distance travelled by bus ‘D’ in 7 hours = 35 × 7 = 245 km
