Question
In a 30 km race, M, N, and O are running at uniform speed.
If ‘M’ beats ‘N’ by 6 km, and ‘N’ beats ‘O’ by 4 km, then by how many metres does ‘M’ beat ‘O’?Solution
ATQ,
When ‘M’ covers 30 km, ‘N’ will cover 24 km
Similarly, when ‘N’ covers 30 km, ‘O’ covers 26 km
Therefore, when ‘N’ covers 24 km, then ‘O’ will cover = (24 × 26) / 30 = 20.8 km
Therefore, ‘M’ will beat ‘O’ by = 30 – 20.8 = 9.2 km = 9200 metres
