he arrives at his destination 3 hours later than usual. How much time would he take to reach his destination if he traveled at his original speed?
A 6.5 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 7.5 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 4.5 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 2.5 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let the actual speed of Rahul be β€˜s’ km/hr. And, actual time taken by him to reach his destination is β€˜t’ hours. So, total distance covered by Rahul in β€˜t’ hours = {s Γ— t} km---------- (1) Also, Distance covered by Rahul while travelling at 40% less speed = 60% of s Γ— (t + 3) = 0.6 Γ— s Γ— (t + 3) km ----------- (2) From equation (1) and (2), we have s Γ— t = (3/5) Γ— s Γ— (t + 3) Or, 5st = 3st + 9s Or, 2st = 9s So, t = 4.5 So, required time = 4.5 hours
