Question
The distance between two points 'X' and 'Y' is 1,500 km.
Raj and Suresh can cover the distance between 'X' and 'Y' in 25 hours and 20 hours, respectively. If Raj and Suresh start from point 'X' at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, respectively, then at what time and distance from point 'X' will they meet each other?Solution
ATQ, Speed of Raj = (1,500/25) = 60 km/h Speed of Suresh = (1,500/20) = 75 km/h Distance covered by Raj in 2 hours (from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM) = 60 X 2 = 120 km Relative speed of Suresh w.r.t. that of Raj = 75 - 60 = 15 km/h Time taken by them to meet each other = (120/15) = 8 hours So, required time = 4:00 PM + 8 hours = 12:00 AM Required distance = 75 X 8 = 600 km
