Question
In a company of 720 employees, the ratio of men to women is
5:4. Among men, the ratio of married to unmarried men is 3:2. Among women, the ratio of married to unmarried women is 5:3. Find the ratio of married people to unmarried people in the company.Solution
ATQ,
Number of men = 720 × (5/9) = 400
So, number of women = 720 - 400 = 320
Number of married men = 400 × (3/5) = 240
And number of unmarried men = 400 - 240 = 160
Number of married women = 320 × (5/8) = 200
And number of unmarried women = 320 - 200 = 120
So, total number of married people = 240 + 200 = 440
And total number of unmarried people = 160 + 120 = 280
Therefore, required ratio = 440:280 = 11:7
