Question
Initially, a bag contains t-shirts of two colours (yellow
and green) in the ratio of 7: 15 respectively. If 19 yellow t-shirts and 11 green t-shirts were distributed among employees in a team, and the ratio of yellow, and green t-shirts became 1: 4 respectively, then what is the number of yellow t-shirts in the bag initially?Solution
Let initially, number of yellow t-shirts = 7x and number of green t-shirts = 15x
(7x - 19)/(15x - 11) = 1/4
=> 28x - 76 = 15x - 11
=> 13x = 65
=> x = 5
So, number of yellow t-shirts in the bag initially = 7 * 5 = 35
