Question
The ratio of A's age to B's age is 1:4, and the ratio of
B's age to C's age is 4:5. D is 20 years older than B. Additionally, the ratio of C's age to D's age is 5:8. What is the difference in age between A and D?Solution
Let age of A and B be x and 4x respectively.
Age of C = 4x/4 * 5= 5x
Age of D = 20 + 4x.
Given, ratio of age of C and D is 5:8.
5x/(20+4x) = 5/8
8x = 20 + 4x
4x = 20
x = 5
Age of A = x = 5 years
Age of D = 20 + 4x = 20 + 4 * 5 = 40 years
Required difference = (40 - 5) = 35 years
